I suggest you read up on how they handled the Nick Stevens trade

They were much stronger then, both on and off the field. They can't afford that sort of stuff now: no way known they will let Burgoyne go into the PSD... and the clubs chasing him know that too.

If that's the case then just offer pick 9

I don't think it'll be that easy...

I think pick #9 will get it done... unless you get trumped by an actual better offer. If that's still all that's available at 1.59pm on trade Friday, Port will take it... they simply can't afford not to.

But Chocco sounded so tough in the papers that he was going to play hardball and pick 9 was rubbish

I reckon Hawks should just offer it straight up and sit on it till Friday, but will have too see if there are any other offers.

The only issue to Hawthorn here is that they know how dumb Chocco is... he'd rather lose a player for free than give in to the other team's demands..

IMO, pick nine is enough. If they want more they are dreaming. Burgoyne is well past his best.

All fact. :)

Exactly. Sit tight and wait. I personally doubt Essendon or Melbourne will come over the top, especially since Melbourne can afford to wait and see whether Choco really does want to play hard-ball

In fact, the most likely fly in the ointment is the possibility of another good trade involving #9 (e.g. for a decent ruckman) being stalled if you're still waiting on yea or nay from Port on Burgoyne.

We won't come over the top for a couple of reasons - pick 2 is a no no. He's not worth it and the members would be furious. I also don't think we are chasing that hard. He's probably been offered good $$$'s to go PSD but that would be it, I think, so if we are not the prefered club we are not going to have a deal anyone would be interested in. Speaking of which, wasn't he s'posed to nominate his club today?

ive read a lot of you guys saying burgoynes knee/s are buggered but i havnt found any article that says he has long term injury issues only that he has been out this year with a common knee injury that a lot of top players have had, who by the way have bounced back well without long term impact problems. (if someone has something of a medical quality article please post a link). also im sure every intersted club will give him an examination. if a club pays dearly for him then he will have passed there tests and i will see him as a great pickup, having said hes not worth 600 grand a year, thats too much

Gerard Healy said the rumour is that the Hawks are willing to cough up a Premiership player (and a 1st round pick, I assume) to get him. Nothing else said so far.

Well if that's true I expect it to be Rick Ladson.

Burgoyne has the choice.

Essendon for the money and absolutely no chance of a Premiership

or

Hawthorn for Premiership glory.
